The measure tool allows you to determine the length and elevation profile of a route you're interested in. Use this tool to plan your routes and easily convert a measured section into a custom route to use on your next outing. This tool works the best when using trails or roads to snap to (as shown below) but can be used for off-trail routes as well.
Capabilities when in cell coverage
To measure a custom segment of trail, the first step is to tap the "measure" icon on the right side of the screen when viewing an area of interest.
From there, tap or click near the trail or trailhead that you want to start taking a measurement. If your measurement is near a trail, the tool will automatically 'snap' to the trail. Continue clicking along your desired route until you get to the end. Note, it is easiest to click on the route you want every time there is a trail/road intersection so the tool stays on your desired path
Once you get to the end of your route, you have two options. You can click the 'generate elevation profile', which will show the elevation profile and other detailed information along your route. You can also click 'save as route', which will allow to pick a main activity type for your route and it saves as a custom route.
If you get to the end of the route, click on 'Generate Elevation Profile' and then want to edit the route, you can. Make any changes to the path you would like by clicking the 'X' button to delete a section or keep adding sections. Then tap or click the 'Refresh Elevation Profile' button to get an updated elevation profile. From there you can then save as a custom route.
Custom Routes are private to your profile (unless you choose otherwise) and can be saved for offline use alongside downloadable map tiles on the mobile app so that you can take your plans with you into the field.

Capabilities When Offline
When offline, using the measure tool is the same as when online or in cell range, which will continue to 'snap' to nearby trails or roads, giving you high accuracy measurements of the distance you've traveled, or the distance you still have left to go on your trip.
Just note that when you are offline, the measure tool does not include the ability to generate a new custom elevation profile.
