On your next outdoor adventure try recording your path and taking notes along the way in the COTREX app. This feature uses your phone/device's gps (which is why it only works in the app) to "trace" your path. It works best when you are in cell range or have downloaded the area/trail beforehand but it will work when out of cell range.
Start Recording
To start recording a trip simply tap the + button on the main screen of the app and then tap Record a Trip.
This will bring up a menu where you can give it a title, visibility setting, activity type, and a description.
Once you include all of the information you would like, press Start and the app will use its GPS to start recording your journey.
Pause or Finish Recording
When you want to pause or finish a recording, hit the little hiker icon (a green circle will be going around it, indicating the path is being recorded).
A menu will appear where you can choose to finish a trip, pause a trip, edit the information about your trip, or look at that stats of your path to that point:
Pausing a recording will stop the recording at that exact spot, allowing you to restart it when you are moving again. This can be handy when stopping for a small break, taking photos, or taking a small detour you do not want recorded. When are ready to go, click the same icon and hit 'Resume Recording'.
Finishing a recording completes the path. Once you finish your recording it will give you all the stats and information for your path. You can then edit the information (such as title, activity, etc...), view it on the map, delete it, share it with others, or download the gpx file. If you are in cell range, it will also show that it has synched to your account.
Note: Once you finish a recording, it cannot be restarted and to continue, you will have to start a new path.
Taking Notes / Photos
When you encounter something worth noting on your trip (animal sightings, scenic views, fish you catch, photo location, etc...) press the + button. Note that while you are recording the + button will be inside a green shaped teardrop icon. Once you hit the button, click the Field Note option. See more about creating notes here.
Website Sync
Trips are automatically synced to your COTREX account and can be shared with friends and family.
