The COTREX app has a directional aid that uses your phone's internal compass tools to provide an approximation of the direction you're currently facing when location services are active (note this feature works on the app on your phone/device and not the desktop version).
When you are in the app, you will see this directional aid (the blue cone) indicating your direction and how you are facing. This feature works best in cell range or a downloaded map, but does work somewhat when out of cell range as well.
If you encounter inconsistencies with this tool, please close COTREX and re-open it with a clear view of the sky. In most cases this will increase the accuracy of the direction aid. If closing and opening the app doesn't improve accuracy, leave the app open and turn your phone back and forth while laying flat to help calibrate the sensors in your device.
Note - this tool is not intended for extensive navigation purposes such as orienteering, cross-country navigation, or other high-skill or high-risk travel activities. Its accuracy is not high enough to rely on in these types of situations, and is intended to be used for simple purposes like navigation at trail junctions alongside your best judgement.
