Following regions in COTREX allows you to receive push notifications and weekly email alerts related to closures and advisories by participating land managers on their public lands.
Note many areas in Colorado do not currently have this service available, but new ones are being added every year.
There are two ways to follow regions in COTREX:
1. By following areas when browsing the base map using the "Follow this Area" button
2. By following areas within your Followed Regions list
When you follow a region, you will receive push notifications and a weekly email digest to your account any time closures or advisories are posted in COTREX in that area.
Following areas while browsing the map
While browsing the map in COTREX you can follow individual parks or regions easily by tapping the "Follow this Area" button (where available).
When you follow a park or area, you will receive updates for that entire area. Following individual trails or trail segments is not currently supported with Followed Regions.
Once you've followed a region, anything you view within that followed area will now show as "Following" to indicate that you are currently following that area.
Tapping the "Following" button will allow you to to no longer follow that area by clicking 'Unfollow'.
Areas that can't be followed
In many cases, land mangers have not set up this service and you will see the "Follow this Area" option greyed out.
Following from the Followed Regions menu
To keep track of the areas you follow, and to allow you the ability to follow multiple regions at once, we've created a new menu under Settings > Followed Regions. To get to this menu, go to your profile, then go to the bottom of your options to the Settings menu, then tap or click on Followed Regions.
From your Followed Regions menu you can see a list of all of the parks and open spaces you are currently following, and find new areas that are active within COTREX.
Grey areas are available to follow, while blue areas are ones you are currently following.
From this menu you can browse the map and tap on as many areas as you like.
Notifications and the email digest
By default your account is opted in to both push notifications and the weekly email digest.
- Push notifications send automatically whenever a new closure or advisory record is posted, or when an existing one expires. These notifications generally appear between 5-10 minutes after the closure has been posted to COTREX.
- The weekly email digest summarizes all of the closure and advisory activity that has occurred in areas you're following for the week. It is sent weekly every Thursday.
You can change your general notification preferences by going to your profile, then Settings > Notification Preferences to opt in or out of push notifications or the weekly email digest.
