Closures and alerts provide information from official sources around the state regarding temporary restrictions to trails and trailheads. Currently over a dozen agencies around the state actively post notices in COTREX, with more signing on every month.
Reasons for closures vary and can be tied to construction, poor trail conditions, health and safety hazards, or wildlife considerations.
Generally, alerts and closures like this are temporary situations that may last only a few hours, or can sometimes span multiple months. They are distinct from seasonal wildlife closures, which are represented in COTREX's base map when viewing allowed trail uses.
As of July 2020, users with an active COTREX account can now sign up for push notifications or a weekly email digest for closures and alerts in various parks around the state. For more information on how this service works, and how to set up your own Followed Regions, head to our Following Regions FAQ.
While we are continuously updating COTREX with closures and alerts around the state, it is always a good idea to double check with local sources before your trip to make sure you're aware of any notices which may impact your trip.
