Note - Currently only GPX files are supported by COTREX - shapefiles, json, gml and kml/kmz file types are not publicly supported at this time.
There are three areas where importing or downloading GPX files are supported - Recorded Trips, Custom Routes. and Featured Routes. Read on below for details on what functions exist for each trip type, and how to use .gpx files.
Recorded Trips
Recorded Trips allow you to import .gpx files from other applications into COTREX, and download trips generated in COTREX for use in other applications.
Importing Trips
Importing is only available on the web browser. To do so, head to trails.colorado.gov, log in to your profile, and head to the Recorded Trips area (to get to your profile, click on your profile name in the top right corner of the screen).
Downloading Trips
To download a .gpx file on web, simply click on the trip you want to download and click the Download GPX button.
On mobile, tap the "Download GPX" option when viewing a recording to both download and share .gpx files. Some applications like Gia GPS can immediately use COTREX .gpx files via this share menu, or you can save them to an online file system like Google Drive or Dropbox.
Custom Routes
Note - Currently it is only possible to download custom routes from COTREX. It is not possible to import .gpx files to the Custom Routes area of COTREX.
To download custom routes from COTREX on web, go to trails.colorado.gov and navigate to your profile, then the Custom Routes section.
From here, simply click on the custom route you would like to download and click the "Download GPX" button.
On mobile, head to the Custom Routes section of your profile, choose the custom route, and tap the "Download GPX" option when viewing the route. This will allow you to download the custom route to an online file storage system like Google Drive or Dropbox, and also provides options for sharing the file with others, or with some compatible applications like Gia GPS.
Featured Routes
Featured routes are curated trips created by management agencies and other official sources. You can download GPX files for custom routes on web by opening any custom route and tapping the Download GPX button.
